Marcus and I were invited to attend Cirque du Soleil’s premiere of LUZIA last night, and I was completely over the moon about being included! I’ve been lucky enough to see a couple of Cirque du Soleil’s shows in Vegas in the past, and they just flat out fascinate me. The talent (and strength) of the performers is unmatched, the music and costumes are incredible and the stage design is so well done. I pretty much had my jaw on the floor for the whole show!

Cirque du Soleil’s LUZIA – A Walking Dream of Mexico, will be in Houston from January 10-February 24 at the Sam Houston Race Track. The show is inspired by Mexico, which is seen through the colors, music, costumes, decoration of the tent itself and the different acts. There was lots of trapeze and swing work, acrobatics, dancing, singing and even humor. One of my favorite elements was the curtain of water they used in multiple acts (seen below). Learn more about how the rain curtain works here.

I had never been to a Cirque du Soleil performance in one of their tents, and I was really impressed. From the outside, it definitely looks like a circus tent, but on the inside you really feel like you are inside a high-class venue. The stage is round and the seating is done in an almost complete circle around the stage.

Ticket prices range from $45-$120, but based on the way it’s set up, there really isn’t a bad seat in the house. We did receive complimentary tickets, but based on the seating chart online I’m guessing we had around $90 seats. This put us about 3/4 of the way back and pretty well centered to the front of the stage. I loved where we sat because you could see the entire stage really well – and there is so much going on!

With Valentine’s Day coming up, this would be a GREAT gift idea. Marcus and I both thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. This is definitely an out-of-the-ordinary event to go to – we couldn’t stop talking about it the whole way home!

This would also be a good event to take your family or children to. There were quite a few kids at the premiere, and they seemed to be really loving it. We were hearing lots of little giggles when the clown/mime came out between acts.

A few things to note:
- Parking on site is $12 CASH ONLY.
- It is $12 beer night at the event (they do take credit card), so just be prepared for that if you plan to drink while there.
- They have your typical concessions (pretzels, nachos, hot dogs) at your typical concession prices. I would recommend grabbing a bite to eat before you come!
- They do have port-a-potties, but they are very nice and clean. They are similar to airport bathrooms and actually flush!

I want to thank Cirque du Soleil for inviting us to the premiere of LUZIA and for having us at the media pre-party (which was so well done)! We had an absolute blast and will definitely be keeping our eyes out for the next time Cirque du Soleil comes to Houston!

So cool!! The show looks incredible from the pictures! Thanks for sharing 🙂
You’re so welcome. It was a wonderful show!
