Happy Memorial Day weekend friends! We are heading up to Austin this weekend, and I can’t wait to get on the road!
We’ve been using reusable wool dryer balls in our house for almost two years, and haven’t looked back! They are a simple replacement for dryer sheets. They help soften your clothes and reduce overall drying time. I think they are especially great for sheets and towels because they help separate the fabrics in the dryer helping them to dry quicker.
The main reason I switched to using dryer balls is that conventional dryer sheets house a large number of chemicals. You can read a little bit more about this here if you are interested in learning more. Honestly, I just feel this was an easy place to remove some potentially harmful chemicals from our home. I also think it’ll save us money in the long run, and it’s one less thing I have to remember to buy at the grocery store!
Think you’ll miss the fragrance? You can add a couple drops of essential oils to the dryer balls. Disclaimer – I did try this (and it works), but I do not take the time to do this every time, and I think our clothes smell as fresh and clean as always.
Husband’s take: “The balls do make a bit more noise, but definitely work just as well as dryer sheets. And you can save the dryer sheets to use with a little water to get hard-to-clean bug splatters off the front of your car. Compared to standard soap, they work much better and don’t require nearly as much scrubbing.”
Happy washing!
I love wool dryer balls too! I didn’t know you could use dryer sheets for the windshield! I’m definitely going to have to give that a try.
