We took a quick trip to Pointe West Galveston, Texas this summer with our friends. Here is everything we learned about this new-to-us destination!
Where is Pointe West?
Pointe West is a resort located on 1000 acres on the west end of Galveston Island at 4161 Pointe West Dr, Galveston, TX 77554. It includes resort amenities, private residences to rent, and a well-maintained private beach.

Where to Stay in Pointe West, Galveston Island?
Condos, cottages, and homes can be rented through local management companies or websites like VRBO and AirBnB or directly through their website. We stayed at a home called Family Tides, which fit our group of 10 well (4 adults and 6 young children).

What We Loved About Our Vacation
- It’s only an hour and 45 minutes from our house in Cypress!
- The community was clean and safe. Our house was fairly new and very well-kept.
- We could easily walk to the beach.
- The community has two pools. One was more of a “beach club” that had a restaurant and bar that you could order from. It was pretty crowded on the weekend, but had an infinity pool and great view of the beach. The other pool is on the bay side and has a small lazy river. It was much less crowded and not manned by any Pointe West staff.
- Note: We had to pay $25/person to use the pools for anyone 4 and older. This is something you purchase beforehand.
Crab Hunting
- There were TONS of ghost crabs to try and capture in the evening.
- They come out around sundown.
- We bought nets and flashlights from Amazon and zip tied them together for the kids. This really helped them catch the crabs, and more importantly it helped us keep eyes on the kids on the dark beach.
- You will also need a bucket and flashlights for the adults. Phone flashlights works fine too.
- Bonus points if you bring a portable speaker down to the beach!
- This was truly a highlight of the trip for us! I’m not sure if these crabs only come out in certain areas or in certain seasons, but its worth checking it out.

What to Know Before You Go to Pointe West
- I recommend cooking most of your meals at home, as there are not a lot of restaurants nearby. We scheduled a Walmart grocery order to be delivered the first day to make it easy on ourselves.
- However, there is a beach club where you can order meals to enjoy at the pool or take to go. Pointe West lists a few restaurants on its site as well. I did not personally eat at any of these.
- We packed lunches and brought them down to the beach, so a soft-sided cooler was nice to have.
- Bring what you need for the beach in terms of gear. There are no beach chair/umbrella rentals that I am aware of. Our group brought a pop up tent (similar to a tailgating tent, but much lighter weight), which worked really well. I also recommend beach chairs, life jackets, and lots of beach toys!

We also squeezed in a sunset family photo session with Mel B Photo while we were there; you can see those photos on my Beach Family Photos post.
