As I’ve mentioned in previous posts, I am on a (steady, albeit slow) mission to switch over to cleaner household, skin care and cosmetic products. I stumbled across Switch2Pure on Instagram a couple of months back and on a whim sent a direct message asking what they would recommend in terms of foundation since mine was about to run out. They responded quickly asking what I was looking for, sent me a color matching guide and gave me some ideas of products I might like. A few weeks after I ordered a foundation they checked back in to see how I was liking it. I was so impressed by both the product and the service that I decided to give their monthly subscription box a try.
I received my first subscription box last month – and here is what all was included:
The claim: USDA Certified Organic ingredients. No chemical preservatives. “Ecoderma” fabric that is made with advanced technology to help soak in the serum deeper into skin. Reduces the appearance of brown spots and sun damage. Provides potent antioxidant protection to keep firm and youthful skin. Improves skin’s natural healing response, resulting in skin revitalization, and orange peel and pomegranate boost healthy collage synthesis.
My take: I am loving sheet masks lately, and this one was no exception. The mask itself felt extremely moisturizing while on, and my skin was still noticeably nourished when I woke up in the morning. Once I removed the sheet, my skin wasn’t sticky at all. And I love that this mask focuses on brown spots and sun damage (two things I struggle with). Definitely enjoyed this one!
Tip for sheet masks: Do not throw away any left over liquid in the packet! That’s good stuff! Rub every last drop into your neck, chest and hands.
I received a full size lip gloss in my box in the shade “Dusty Crimson”. This gloss has no lead, parabens or other toxins but feels and looks completely conventional. The pigment is deep, and the consistency is what you would expect from a high-end brand. I probably wouldn’t have chosen this color for myself, as I don’t wear dark shades very often, but I am impressed with the product itself.
I was excited to see a laundry detergent in the subscription box. I’ve been trying out different “green” laundry detergents, but still haven’t found my favorite quite yet. I received the Lemon Lavender Clove fragrance of Meliora, which smells really nice. This is a powder, which might be a bit different for some people (it was for me at least), but it works just as well. Also, although it says 20 loads on the container, if you have a high-efficiency washing machine (which I bet you do), you only need to use half a scoop, meaning the can will last you twice as long.
I’m hoping the Meliora Soap Stick Stain Remover I found on their website makes its way into a future box. I would love to give it a try!
The claim: Contains antioxidants that help repair the skin, prevent fine lines, and combat signs of aging. Can be used as a daily cleanser and a waterproof makeup remover. Rosemary Essential Oil helps rejuvenate the skin, reduce scars and age spots, and tones skin complexion. Bergamot Essential Oil cleanses and purifies the skin of the toughest and most deeply rooted impurities, helps improve inner blood circulation, and lastly helps the distribution of pigments in the skin, thus improving skin tone. Great for all skin types Increases skin’s elasticity, making skin firmer and younger, hydrates + brings oxygen to the skin, enhances the luster of dull skin, improves and balances skin tone, and refreshes and treats normal, dry, oily, and combo skin.
My take: My skin drinks this stuff up! I actually have it on my face right now as I type this. I used to be skeptical of facial oils, but I’m a believer now. They just work really well with my skin. I put it on at night, and my skin still feels moisturized in the morning. The variety I received is Grapefruit + Basil, which is an interesting but pleasing combination – definitely not two scents I’ve seen together before. I will definitely be using every little bit of this oil!
You can never have too many chap sticks around the house, in the car, in different purses, etc. – and I was happy to get this one from Honey Belle in my box. It tastes good and feels great on my lips. I also like my chap sticks in twist tube versus a little pod, so I appreciate the packaging on this product. Lastly, it’s only $5 which is just a little bit more than what you would pay for a regular chap stick, which I love to see.
Toothpaste is another product that I’ve tried a handful of different alternative brands, without settling on a favorite. I’ve been using this one the last few weeks, and have zero complaints. I was really surprised when I learned there are quite a few harsh chemicals in most toothpastes, and this one is completely free of anything unnatural. It’s organic, vegan, cruelty free and sweetened with stevia.
Did you know bamboo is antimicrobial? Me neither. This toothbrush handle has a light coating of Chinese white wax on top of antimicrobial bamboo to keep germs at bay. I am personally an electric toothbrush kind of girl, but this toothbrush has found a home in my travel bag.
This little bar of soap has been in my shower for the past few weeks, and I find myself reaching for it instead of my shower gel these days. It smells great, is moisturizing and has only a handful of ingredients.
Overall, I have been really happy with the products I received in the Switch2Pure subscription box. I look forward to seeing what I get next time.
