Sharks and Mermaids Theme:
This year our kids turned four and two! We have two March babies, and since we didn’t really celebrate birthdays last year due to COVID, we knew we wanted to do something special. I know my days are numbered of getting to play a big part in birthday party themes, so I am taking full advantage! We decided on sharks and mermaids for Adeline and Jacob this year!

Sharks and Mermaids was SUCH an easy theme. There are so many party supplies at stores for both of those themes, and honestly, you probably have some things around your house you could use as decor. I am all about keeping it simple and keeping costs down where you can!
Kid’s Party Venue in Cypress:
We held the kids’ party at Kidtastic Park, an indoor playground in Cypress, TX. The great thing about this venue (outside of the fact that my kids love it there) is that they make it really easy on the parents. They have two party rooms, and we had one all to ourselves. The party included pizza, juice boxes for the kids, table cloths, plates, napkins, and silverware. They also included the special sticky socks they require for all kids and adults and a staff member to help out throughout the party.

I was able to bring in cake, cookies, and a cooler of water bottles. We could have also brought in other food if we wanted to, which was a nice option to have. The Kidtastic Park party included 1.5 hours of playtime and then 30 minutes to eat and sing happy birthday.

Sharks and Mermaids Party Decor:
I used Luxe Balloons Houston for the second time for balloons (you can see the other garland they made for me here). They made the cutest mermaid tail balloon garland, and also brought some fun mermaid-themed helium balloons. We were able to get into the party room a little early to have time to get set up.

Outside of the balloons, I just brought a netting decoration we had in Jacob’s room (you can see his nautical nursery here) and a few serving trays/stands I have in my collection at home.
Pizza, Cake and Cookies:
The pizzas were Marcos (provided by Kidtastic Park as part of the cost of the party). The cakes were from HEB and only around $20 apiece if I remember correctly. I wasn’t 100% sure what there were going to look like, but I had a general idea and for that price, you won’t find me complaining. The HEB bakery also makes delicious cakes – lots of thumbs up from the party-goers. We got the 6″ cakes.

A little party highlight for me is always custom sugar cookies. I’ve used Twinkle Star Treats (a local to Cypress, mom-owned bakery), and she is such a talent. I just told Allison the theme of Sharks and Mermaids and she ran with it! I’ve used her multiple times and have always been beyond pleased with the turnout. She does book up fast, so if you have an event coming up, don’t wait to reach out! She also did the cookies for this party I hosted!

Party Favors:
When it comes to birthday party favors, I try to find something that is useful and consumable. For this party, we did bath bombs made by Royal T Boutique. Tiffany is able to make custom bath bombs, soaps and bath fizzes to fit the theme of your party. My kids are obsessed with bath bombs right now, so I figured their friends would like them too!

Pro tip: I’ve also purchased bath bombs from her for birthday party gifts for my kids friends! You can see an example of these gift boxes here.
I also feel like the custom cookies could have been the party favor since they are individually wrapped and great to hand to people as they are walking out the door.
Sharks and Mermaids Outfits:
I don’t think kids need special outfits for their birthday party, but Adeline is in the stage of loving to dress up, so it was really fun for her to have a special mermaid skirt. I found it on Etsy, and it was adorable on her. She has since worn it over her leotards to gymnastics, so I’m happy to see it getting even more use!

Jacob wore a pajama shirt he already had with sharks on it!

Invites (or lack thereof):
Honestly, it was such a small party (end of March 2021 and still dealing with the effects of the pandemic) so I just texted the moms of the kids were going to invite. I didn’t even mess with invites!
Credit where it’s due:
I want to give a big thank you to the following businesses for sponsoring our event either through a discount or gifted product! If you are in Cypress or Houston I can wholeheartedly recommend these vendors. Royal T Boutique and Peace Love and Baby Shop ship too!
