My dad, sister and I went on a father daughter weekend getaway in November of last year. We had originally planned to go to Napa, but after the devastating fires that hit the area we decided to change course and go to Lake Tahoe. It was a tad chilly, but the air was crisp and the skies were blue.
We stayed at this rental that I found on Vacation Rentals By Owner (VRBO). There were only three of us, but this place could have slept ten! It was on a little canal in South Lake Tahoe and had a beautiful view of the mountains from the porch. I would definitely recommend looking into this spot if you are visiting.
We had two things we wanted to do while in Tahoe – go on a hike and get out on the lake – and luckily we were able to accomplish both. We decided to hike Cascade Falls. From the top you can see both Lake Tahoe and the smaller Cascade Lake. You know you will be alright on a hike when you see 10-pound dogs and toddlers coming down as you are going up. It was rocky and steep in a few parts, but pretty quick (about an hour to the top) and just stunning. For the hiking effort we put in, the payout in breathtaking views was both unexpected and undeserving. We did not take it for granted. If you are in Tahoe – look up this trail!
Here are a few shots from our “climb”!
Our dad insisted on climbing over to this tree growing out of a boulder, nearly giving Shannon and me each a heart attack. It did make for a cool photo. He’s fine.
Later that evening we took a boat ride on the Safari Rose. This 80′ yacht was built in the 1950s and still had all the charm you might expect. Our ticket price included unlimited alcohol and appetizers, the crew was great and they had plenty of space indoors to warm up. We went around sunset, and it was a perfect way to see the lake up close.
Honestly the best part of this trip though, was getting to spend it with two of my favorite people. The memories the three of us made together in Tahoe will always be special to me. Friends, you are never to old for a father daughter date! Grab your dad and get away for a few days – or even just a quick dinner – you won’t regret it.
Can’t wait to go back! So happy you shared the link to the VRBO house – I have already reccomended that house to others!
The house for would be perfect for a big family or group of friends!
Looks like so much fun! I want to pitch this idea to my dad!
You guys would have so much fun!
What an awesome trip and beautiful pictures! By the way, I love the layout of your site too. Super clean and easy to read.
Thank you! The views were even better in person!
